About the event
Join us for our speaker series, Tech on Tap. Our May 2024 speaker is Feras A. Batarseh, associate professor with the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative and the Department of Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) at Virginia Tech. As the old adage goes, beer is for drinking, but water is for fighting – on May 30th, join us for a beer while hearing about ongoing water cyber-wars.
There are about 153,000 public drinking water systems and 16,000 publicly owned wastewater treatment utilities in the U.S., many of which have been targets of and are highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Water systems (for drinking, irrigation, industrial use, and more) are being increasingly compromised by adversaries, domestic and international. In many of these cases, Artificial Intelligence (AI) comes to the rescue, but the public policies need to follow. In this Tech-on-Tap talk, Water, AI, Cyber, and Cider are presented.
The cost to attend is $10 and includes a $5 gift to the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative Programs Fund.
