About the event
George Washington started a revolution from his farm at Mount Vernon. Find out how it has evolved into the farming revolution of today and what it means for the future. Drones, robots, artificial intelligence, and big data will seed the future of farming as much as plants and animals. Virginia Tech experts will talk about the role that the SmartFarm Innovation Network and the Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture will play in helping to develop technologies’ that will feed a growing — and hungry — global population.

Sam Murphy came to Mount Vernon with extensive culinary experience as the chef/owner of an award-winning 18th-century inn in South Carolina. He has extensively researched historic foodways and has been involved in the development of Mount Vernon’s chocolate-making demonstrations. He is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and currently pursuing an M.B.A. at Marymount University.
