Double Release: Derecho Lager and Panda Haze

On Friday, June 10th we are having a double beer release at Port City! Come join us as we tap a couple of beers to cool you down for these hot summer months. Though the Derecho Lager and Panda Haze are quite different in style, they share a pleasant hop character with a refreshing, smooth finish.

Derecho Lager® is named after a violent storm which barreled through the DC Metro region 10 years ago, leaving the brewery without power for five days. Unable to control fermentation temperatures, a tank of freshly brewed pilsner was at risk of being lost. Realizing the beer would not meet the guidelines of a Bohemian Pilsner, we decided to experiment with the beer – keeping fermentation temperatures on the warmer side, and dry-hopping with Centennial hops. These non-traditional techniques paid off, and the result was the creation of our first American Lager!

Since Derecho’s debut, our production team has refined the recipe each summer. The present formulation is brewed with 100% Centennial hops, Derecho is bright blonde in color, with bread like flavors from the malts, and citrus and pine notes for the hops. This lager has a medium body and finishes with a clean hop bitterness.

Brewed for just the second time, Panda Haze is an American Pale Ale that pours hazy golden in color. The nose is lively with notes of bright citrus and stone fruit. Silky-smooth in mouthfeel with a surprisingly full body, the finish is soft with flavors of clementine, apricot, and melon.

The Tasting Room will open at noon and we will have Borinquen Lunch Box as our food truck starting around 4pm. The Derecho Lager will be available in 4-packs of 16oz cans and the Panda Haze is being bottled in in 12oz 6-packs, both are available from draft for on site enjoyment.
